As usual, the news article inflates their claims. They didn't conclusively find the "huge hole" there; they just found a suggestion of it. But, it also happens to coincide with the location of another anomaly, as they said, the "cold spot" in the cosmic microwave background. It's not the only possible explanation of the cold spot, but it is actually one of the most plausible.
